The Genesis account of the heavens represent the dwelling places of the righteous ones and God is seated on the Highest, All the creations are before Him, nothing can stand behind Him.
The earth in Genesis 1:1 is Space, if we remove everything from Space it makes perfect sense to be dark void and formless and darkness was upon the face of the deep as Genesis 1:2 describes it. We all know that the sun and the moon are not on the planet or attached to the planet, they are all in Space – So when God stepped into our realm the first thing, He created was light because it was dark, void, and formless.
If we read Genesis 1:31 it clearly indicates that the first creation was perfect before God.
Genesis 2 creation is different because in the Genesis 1:1-end, God created Male & Female in the image, likeness and kind of God but in Genesis 2, the man was formed from the dust of the ground, we clearly know that he was lifeless until God breathed breath of life into him, and he became a living soul then God put him in the garden. The planet was for unrighteous creatures or creatures in their fallen states, this makes perfect sense why after the man and woman sinned, He cast them out of the garden into the planet earth.
Space & earth are places of punishment for unrighteous creatures (both physical & spiritual creatures).
After the war in heaven, Satan and his agents were also cast into the earths realm, again the (fallen) angels that came to earth and lusted after the women also cast down into the deepest part of the earth realms.
